There are library research guides to support searching for materials relevant to regions of the world outside of the United States. Below is a sample of some of those guides. Check International Studies Research Guides for a complete list.
This guide is a living, growing resources and always "in progress." Please contact the owner of the guide with suggestions for additions, changes, or deletions.
The United States Library of Congress creates subject headings that standardize the words used to describe topics and concepts. This means that all of the items in the University of Michigan Library catalog should be found together using the appropriate subject heading.
One way to find books on social work in other countries is by using this advanced search format:
subject:"Library of Congress subject heading Country or region of interest"
For example:
subject:"social service thailand"
subject:"social workers india"
subject:"Public welfare Latin America."
Here is a very partial list of subject headings that might be of interest:
Social Service
Family social work
Social policy
Social work administration
Program evaluation
Public welfare
Social advocacy
Child welfare
Social workers
Counseling
Human services
Community organization
If you can't find a subject heading that matches your topic, keyword searching is always an option as well. See "Tips for Searching Library Resources" for ideas on crafting an effective search in the catalog and other library databases. For searching in non-Roman scripts, for example to look for keywords in titles, see the information on the Library Research Guide on catalog searching.
