Thailand Partners: Dr. Naruemol Singha-Dong (Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Institute of Nursing Suranaree University of Technology) and April Bigelow (Clinical Associate Professor at UMSN)  

Ghana Partners: Dr. Veronica Millicent Dzomeku (Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Nursing at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) and Dr. Jody Lori (Professor at UMSN)  


Panelists will discuss how their collaborations began, how they sustain these relationships, and what barriers and successes they have experienced in advancing these international partnerships.

KEYNOTE: International Partnerships through US Higher Education Institutions: Why Does it Matter?

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Mark A. Cantrell, USAID/Egypt, Health Development Officer, Office of Health and Population

This opening plenary will focus on why we need globally prepared healthcare professionals, and the role of U.S. higher education institutions in the field of global health.

PANEL: Creating a Shared Understanding of Expectations

Speakers: Amy Carey (Assistant Vice Provost for International Engagement at University of Michigan), Patrick Morgan (Chief International Safety Officer at University of Michigan), and Andries Coetzee (Professor and Director of International Partnerships, Literature, Sciences, and Arts at University of Michigan)


Panelists will discuss legal considerations of international partnerships, including FERPA/HIPAA compliance, contracts, agreements, and health and safety abroad.

      

DISCUSSION: Ethical Global Engagement

Speakers: Dr. Michelle Munro-Kramer (Assistant Professor at UMSN), Beste Windes (UMSN Academic Program Manager), and Gurpreet Rana (Global Health Coordinator at the Taubman Health Sciences Library at University of Michigan)


Panelists will discuss how to prepare both students and faculty for ethical international experiences in health fields. This includes discussions on cross-cultural engagement, intercultural development, pre-departure/post-entry support, and collaborative project planning.
