KEYNOTE | Bridging Gaps in Nursing Innovations for Health: Equity in the Americas

SPEAKERS:

Alide Alejandrina Salazar Molina is a Nurse-Midwife from the University of Valparaíso, with a Master’s and PhD in Nursing from the University of Concepción, Chile.  She is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Concepción and the Co-founder of Somos Más Salud, a company focused on creating evidence-based digital tools to support people—especially women—through health and illness transitions. Dr. Salazar's academic and research interests center on women’s health, particularly the menopausal transition, as well as cardiovascular health, health promotion, and community-based research. She teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervise graduate students in nursing and allied health fields. Dr. Salazar's interest is in connecting science with social impact, and much of my work focuses on developing eHealth strategies to improve the quality of life for people with chronic conditions. 

 

Professor Bukola Salami currently holds the rank of Full Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Black and Racialized Peoples Health in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Professor Salami’s research program focuses on policies and practices shaping migrant health as well as Black people’s health. She has been involved in over 90 funded studies totalling over $230 million. She founded and leads the African Child and Youth Migration Network, a network of 42 scholars from four continents. She co-led the establishment of the Institute for Intersectional Studies at the University of Alberta. In 2020, she founded the Black Youth Mentorship and Leadership Program. Her work on Black youth mental health informed the creation of the first mental health clinic for Black Canadians in Western Canada. She has presented her work to policy makers (including to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health). Her work has contributed to policy change, including that related to Black people’s well-being. She is Vice President of the Canadian Nurses Association as well as member of the Governing Council of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is an advisory board member of the CIHR Institute for Human Development, Child and Youth Health and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Global Health to the Government of Canada. 

 

Olivia Lemberger, PhD, RN, NPD-BC, began her nursing career as a health service Peace Corps volunteer in Guinea, West Africa. Olivia’s time in Guinea initiated an appreciation for innovation forging a deep interest that led to her dissertation research on the Value and Impact of Nurse Innovators Working in Academic, Industry, and Government Settings. Olivia was one of the twelve inaugural Johnson and Johnson nurse innovation fellows which prompted her to innovate the Nurse Innovator Index, an open-access database to capture the work of nurse innovators, entrepreneurs, and scientists. Olivia delights in embracing strategies that create conditions for self-awareness, equity, creative courage, and collective liberation in her work for the American Nurses Enterprise as their Innovation Scientist.

Research Breakout Session | Exploring the Role of AI and Digital Health in Nursing Clinical Practice

Session Moderator: Michelle Munro-Kramer, Associate Professor and Director of Global Programs, University of Michigan School of Nursing

Dr. Rodrigo Jensen is an Obstetric Nurse, Master in Nursing (2010) and received his PhD in Health Sciences (2013) from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Post-doctorate (2014) and Habilitation (2021) from the University of São Paulo (USP). He works as an Associate Professor in the Department of Professional Guidance of the School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo (USP) and in the Postgraduate Program in Nursing Management. Leader of the Study and Research Group on Information Technology in Nursing Work Processes (GEPETE). Reviewer of national and international journals. He was a visiting professor at the Catholic University of Portugal (Lisbon, Portugal, 2019) and a visiting researcher at the City University of New York (New York, USA, 2012). He is currently a technical advisor to the Permanent Commission for Systematization of Nursing Practice (COMSISTE) of the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEn Nacional) and a member of the Digital Nursing Technical Chamber of the Regional Nursing Council of São Paulo (COREN-SP). He is a founding member of the Nursing Process Research Network (RePPE) and a full member of the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics (SBIS). Areas of expertise: Health and Nursing Informatics, Digital Health, Nursing Process and Information Management.

Clinical/Policy Breakout Session | Technology Application in Nursing

Session Moderator: Megan Eagle, Clinical Assistant Professor and Deputy Director of the WHO Collaborating Center, University of Michigan School of Nursing

Dr. Heng-Hsin (Shannon) Tung, a nursing scholar and professor at Taiwan’s National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, has dedicated her career to advancing geriatric and cardiovascular care and the development of nurse practitioners (NPs). She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Health Systems Executive Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. from the University of San Diego. Her research integrates cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovation. Dr. Tung has conducted groundbreaking studies on digital interventions, including the effects of digital somatosensory dance and resilience-enhancing web programs, showcasing their potential to improve cognitive performance, physical health, and well-being among older adults. Dr. Tung's work addresses complex health challenges through research and policy advocacy. She authored more than 150 publications, including ones about resilience and health-related quality of life in cardiovascular patients among geriatric populations. She was inducted into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in 2024.
