What happens when I graduate?
When you graduate, you lose access to the University of Michigan Library. That does not mean that you cannot keep up with the latest reseach in Kinesiology. This portion of the guide will provide School of Kinesiology Alumni with tips for keeping up with the latest research when they graduate.
Your Public Library
If you live in Michigan, you have access to the Michigan eLibrary (MeL.org). Through this service, you have access to business databases, education databases, health and wellness resources, and more. You just need a public library card.
If you live outside of Michigan, contact your local library to see what you have access to.
Online Research
These articles, journals, and websites are freely available. These articles and journals are often scholarly. Here are some places where you can find these journals in your discipline:
- Public Library of Science (PLoS)PLoS is a nonprofit publisher and advocacy organization. It's mission is to accelerate progress in science and medicine by leading a transformation in research communication. Every article that we publish is open-access - freely available online for anyone to use.
- PubMed Central (PMC)PubMed Central® (PMC) is a free archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM). In keeping with NLM’s legislative mandate to collect and preserve the biomedical literature, PMC serves as a digital counterpart to NLM’s extensive print journal collection.
- Directory of Open Access: Sports Science journalsThis is a list of open access, freely available, journals related to the discipline of kinesiology. You can also search here for open access articles.

- American College of Sports MedicineLargest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world. See the Access Public Information tab for position stands and other useful papers on a variety of related topics.
- American Kinesiology AssociationIncludes a list of institutions offering degrees in or related to kinesiology.
- International Federation of Sports MedicineSite includes some useful position papers.
- LA84 FoundationAmong its other functions, LA84 examines the role of sport in society. As part of this function it maintains an impressive digital library of historic publications related to sports as well as reports on the current state of sports in society.
- National Coalition for Promoting Physical ActivityIncludes links to fact sheets, assessment tools, and research reports.
- National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic EquipmentNOCSAE develops performance standards for protective equipment used in a variety of sports.
