Researchers are increasingly required to write a data management or data sharing plan to accompany their research proposals to funding sources such as NIH, NSF, and more. In this workshop recording we provide an overview of what kinds of information should be included in a data management or sharing plan, along with best practices and resources to help with writing a plan.
This workshop recording is most useful for researchers in the health sciences and STEM disciplines who are early career researchers, researchers who have not yet had to write a data management plan, first-time grant applicants, and graduate students.
This workshop was originally offered on June 14, 2023 as the first of three in the HS-STEM Summer Data Workshop Series.
Doing scientific research usually means generating lots of digital data and files. In this workshop recording we go over best practices for how to organize and manage your files, how to create a file naming convention, and practical strategies you can apply right away to help get better organized.
While this workshop is useful for researchers at all career stages, it is most useful for those that are early career researchers, getting started on or in the midst of a project with lots of files, and students.
This workshop was originally offered on July 13, 2023 as the second of three in the HS-STEM Summer Data Workshop Series.
Requirements for data sharing are increasing, but what does it actually entail? This session will cover considerations and potential requirements for data sharing, including new guidance from NIH and OSTP, and ethical considerations. We will also discuss what is needed for successful data sharing. Finally, we will introduce criteria for defining your data needs and evaluating repositories for sharing and preservation, and provide a short demonstration of the University of Michigan’s own data repository, Deep Blue Data.
This workshop will be most useful for researchers in the health sciences and STEM disciplines who want to know more about sharing research data, or who will be sharing research data to fulfill funder or journal requirements.
This workshop was originally offered on August 10, 2023 as the third of three in the HS-STEM Summer Data Workshop Series in 2023.
