Genealogy Research

A searchable list of descriptions and guides to numerous microform (microfilm or microfiche) collections of primary documents on many different subjects including U.S. and world history. Entries include summary descriptions of each collection, and links to online copies of detailed printed guides when available. Many of the microfilm sets are owned by the U-M Library, either online or in microform (and the others can be borrowed in microform via Interlibrary Loan).

Freely accessible version of the U.S. Social Security Administration's Death Master File (DMF) mounted on Intellectual Reserve, Inc.'s FamilySearch website, a commercial genealogy service. A file of all deaths reported to SSA from sources other than States (including family members, funeral homes, hospitals, Federal agencies, postal authorities and financial institutions), beginning around 1936.

Contains complete 1990 US census data for all block groups, and county statistics from 1790 to 1996. (Available at the Map Library in the Hatcher Graduate Library building.)
