Collection Overview

UM maintains extensive library collections to support the multidisciplinary study of religion.  Library holdings cover all regions of the world and all historical periods, and are available in a variety of formats and languages.

This guide provides myriad resources for conducting research in religious studies, including the following links to specific area programs as they relate to religion, history, and culture:

MLibrary Mirlyn Catalog Search

Here are some searching tips for finding books in our libraries:

  • In our library catalog Mirlyn, search for relevant Library of Congress subject terms, such as "Religion" or "Religion and culture" or "Religion life and customs".
  • Browse the library stacks in areas of interest to you, such as those under the Library of Congress Religion classification.
  • Conduct a virtual stacks browse across all of our libraries by using Classic Mirlyn to browse a relevant Library of Congress Religion classification.

Access to Materials at other Libraries

Interested in what libraries in other parts of the country, and around the world, have to offer in religious studies?

  • You can search WorldCat, an online catalog of materials held by over 57,000 libraries worldwide (including most libraries in North America, and the national libraries of Australia and many Western European countries).
  • Place an Interlibrary Loan request for materials that we don't own. We will request material(s) from other libraries on your behalf.
