About Alison Bechdel

Alison Bechdel is an American cartoonist and MacArthur Fellow. She is best known for her award-winning autobiographical novel Fun Home, the musical adaptation of which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2015. She also wrote the comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For from 1983 to 2008. Dykes to Watch Out For also introduced and popularized the Bechdel Test, which is still used to draw attention to gender representation and sexism in film.
