Library Guide for International Students and Scholars

Shapiro’s first floor offers a lot of creative resources for students to work on academic and personal projects alike. The PIE space is a collaborative prototyping area, there are two Media Production rooms (for creating and editing content), and a workshop for crafting, including a 3D printer and vinyl press.

The Sweetland Peer Writing Center offers support on coursework and professional development with 45-minute consultation sessions on your writing. They also offer writing workshops and courses aimed at international students (like Writing 120).

If you would like to talk to someone about accessing resources, narrowing your research or learning about library services, you can get support from student peer information consultants. They offer in-person consulting and virtual office hours.

Every library has access to computers. You need to log in with your UM credentials to utilize them. Here you can find their locations.

Every library has access to printers and scanners. Here you can learn where to find and use them. Students receive an allocation for printing, but that can be refilled if it is used completely.

The Shapiro and Hatcher Libraries have benches and rugs for prayer and meditation. An MCard is needed to access the room.

There are three cafés in libraries around campus: Bert’s Café in Shapiro, Mujo Café in the Art, Architecture, and Engineering Library (at the Duderstadt Center) and JavaBlu in the Taubman Health Sciences Library.

Some libraries also have bikepumps, Kill A Watt meters, adapters, and cables available for checkout in information desks. Learn about what equipment you can check out and where here.

Libraries throughout campus host many events! Some are related to specific fields, like the Map Library's Open Houses, while some are more activity based, like There-paws events. We also host an International Student Lunch, were you can sign up to be provided lunch as you meet other international students on campus.

Another way to get involved with the library is by working with us. We often have postings for circulation desks and shelving jobs year-round. We also have Engagement Fellows, Ambassadors, and Scholars programs, to name a few of our internship and fellowship opportunities.
