Resources for Video Creation

Introduction to basic video concepts and helpful resources available at the University of Michigan Library.

Library Recording and Editing Spaces

There are several spaces within the library that were designed specifically for video recording and editing. Outlined below are many of the spaces available to students to use for class or group projects involving video.


The Personal Studio
The Personal Studio is your one stop location for creating a video from start to finish. This room contains a computer with video software, camera,  teleprompter, touch screen, tablet, studio lighting, and changeable backdrops. You can reserve this room and record and edit your entire video in one sitting.

The Recording Booth
Also known as the Virtual Room, this is a soundproof booth that is ideal for clean and crisp audio and video recordings. The room features a 27" iMac, a video camera, a high-end microphone, black backdrop, and video editing software so you can record videos in this space as well.

Multimedia Workrooms

The Multimedia Rooms are the ideal locations for editing video or audio. They are private rooms that contain all equipment needed for a heavy editing session, such as powerful Mac Pro computers, multiple high-end 4K monitors, speaker system, battery backup, music keyboard, and more. GroundWorks is just around the corner, so you can get support if you run into any issues!

Winberg Audio Production Room

People recording audioThe Winberg Audio Production Room is designed for producing and editing audio and recording music.This room also contains sound-dampening panels, but is not soundproof. If you need a soundproof space, please visit the Recording Booth at GroundWorks.

Perlstein Editing Room

The Perlstein Editing Room is a more accessible and scaled down version of the Multimedia Workrooms found at the Duderstadt Center. After completing an online training module, the Editing Room may be reserved. This space features two stations, one for video editing and the other for graphics and animation. When you reserve this room, you will get access to both of these stations. The video editing station includes a Mac Pro, 4K Monitor, and Blu-Ray burner and the graphics station includes a Cintiq HD Display Tablet for drawing, 27" iMac, high-quality Epson flatbed scanner, and a Blu-ray burner.
