Alternative metrics, also called altmetrics, measure engagement with publications in non-scholarly venues like blogs, tweets, article downloads, and shares. See the altmetrics.org blog for more information.
How do I access alternative metrics?
- Generate individual reports with tools like ImpactStory, or access altmetrics through publisher websites and citation databases (e.g., PlumX metrics are included in Scopus)
- Altmetric.com
Not to be confused with the generic term "altmetrics," Altmetric.com is an alternative metrics provider.
- Plum Analytics

- Snowball Metrics
A research metrics initiative led by research universities around the world working to establish global standards to enable institutional benchmarking. The University of Michigan is a member of the Snowball Metrics United States Working Group.
