Introduction to Making Maps with Census Data

One of the best ways for understanding and visualizing Census data is to create maps. Within a map, complicated data often appears more simple and clear to the viewer. There are many different programs which can be used to create maps from Census data. Some of these, like Social Explorer, deal primarily with Census data, and the user simply needs to select the variables and geographic locations they wish to map; others, like Many Eyes, allow users to create unique visualizations using any kind of variable, but the data must be supplied by the user. The following are several available options for creating maps.
