About Zotero

Zotero is a bibliographic management tool that works with Firefox, Chrome, & Safari. It has a desktop program & also a web backup. The Zotero Connector recognizes & extracts bibliographic information from websites, library catalogs, & databases, enabling you to easily save, organize, & create bibliographies of the sources you collect. Zotero also has several features that enable you to enhance the citations you collect, including automatic capture of webpages, storage of PDF files, images, and links, as well as note taking & search capabilities. Zotero is powerful, easy to use, & free.

Getting Started with Zotero

To start using Zotero,

  1. Create an account at https://zotero.org (click the Log In link in the upper right corner, then click the Register for a free account link on the left)
  2. Download the Zotero App
  3. Download the Zotero Connector for the browser(s) you use (works in Firefox, Safari, & Chrome)

I thought that Zotero was an add-in for Firefox.

For many years it was, but now Zotero has a separate program, with browser add-ins that work with Firefox, Chrome, & Safari to import references.

Where is my data stored?

In your Zotero library, use the Edit dropdown menu to find & select Preferences.  Select the Advanced icon on the right
