Primary

Primary sources are:

documents (images, maps, statistics, music, research data) that were created at a time closely associated with an event, person, idea, or period that you are studying
often a first-hand account or otherwise closely chronologically connected to a point in time that you are researching
may be created later by someone with first-hand experience of an event (memoirs or autobiographies, for example)

A continuous program of new databases comprised of unique or rare historical primary sources, digitized from The New York Academy of Sciences, The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)

Campus Resources

Bentley Historical Library
Collects the materials for and promotes the study of the histories of two great, intertwined institutions, the State of Michigan and the University of Michigan.
Clements Library
Collects, preserves, and makes available historical resources about the Americas, with particular strengths in 18th and 19th century American history.
