Why use Deep Blue Documents?
Deep Blue Documents stores, preserves, and disseminates research materials, ensuring long-term accessibility and discoverability through persistent URLs (DOIs) and indexing in search engines. We encourage people at U-M to share and preserve their work using the Deep Blue Documents repository, which hosts materials long-term and can provide stable links for CVs and other career documentation. Making your work openly available has numerous benefits, both for your scholarly visibility and the development of your discipline. Do note that once an item is published in Deep Blue Documents, we consider it to be part of the scholarly record and strive not to remove it unless it becomes unavoidable. If you have any questions or concerns about your work being in Deep Blue Documents, please reach out via our Contact Form and we will be happy to discuss with you.
Benefits of using Deep Blue Documents
- Free
Deep Blue Documents allows authors to deposit their work at no cost.
- Long-term Preservation
Deep Blue provides basic preservation for all format types; open formats that are published and freely available for anyone to use remain readable by future applications. See the Library’s Digital Preservation Policy for more detail, and Registered Formats and Support Levels for more information on recommended file types for preservation.
- Easy Sharing
Upon depositing, each work is assigned a permanent, unique identifier (a DOI) which supports the easy citation of your work. Students can share this link with anyone—potential employers, on CVs or applications to graduate/professional programs, or with their peers—and unlike other URLs, it will not break over time.
- Enhanced Discoverability
Your scholarship in Deep Blue documents is indexed by Google and other search engines, increasing its visibility and impact.
- Statistics Tracking
Knowing how much your work is accessed and cited can help you track its reach and impact. Depositors can opt in to download monthly download counts for their works in the Deposits section, when logged in. They can also view monthly and total downloads of their work in the “Deposits” section of their dashboard.
