- Historical standards – The Art, Architecture & Engineering Library maintains a small collection of superseded or historical standards in print format. A searchable spreadsheet of these standards holdings is available via Historical Standards at AAEL. Standards can be viewed at the AAEL.

If you are not affiliated with the U-M Ann Arbor campus:
Members of the public may visit the Art, Architecture & Engineering Library to view our standards in person. However, most online standards are restricted to U-M Ann Arbor faculty and students.
U-M Dearborn & U-M Flint affiliates should contact their respective libraries for standards access.

Freely Available Standards
- ANSI – The American National Standards Institute compiles a list of standards referenced in the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
Incorporated by Reference (IBR) standards — selected standards from ISO, IEC, AHAM, AWS, IAPMO, IES, NEMA, and other societies — are hosted in a read-only format and available at no cost. Note: Registration is required to view IBR standards.
- ESD – The EOS/ESD Association produces standards on electrostatics. Selected ESD standards are available as complimentary downloads at ESDA.org
- USP – Standards from the United States Pharmacopeia: the National Formulary are at USP–NF Online.

- HIPAA – The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 outlines national standards for electronic health care transactions, code sets, unique health identifiers, and security. Find an overview at the Health and Human Services website.
- OSHA & MiOSHA
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards are available online at the OSHA website.
- Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MiOSHA) standards are available at the MiOSHA website.
- State of Michigan Laws – Find Michigan state laws at Michigan Compiled Laws
- Military Specifications – The Department of Defense provides many military standards for free (registration / approval required). See DoD’s ASSIST website for coverage and registration.
- Municipal Codes – Access to codes and ordinances from over 1,000 U.S. municipalities through Municode.com.
