Consider asking a librarian when you are looking for more information on a topic. Librarians are trained as information professionals and support information exploration in a variety of topics.
While there are many places where you can look for information in an effort to follow the guiding principles in this guide, the following two library databases are designed to give you historical context, explain partisan views clearly, and provide non-news information on the issues of our times.
The University of Michigan Library subscribes to a wide variety of local, national, and international news sources. When you encounter a subject in which you would like to learn more consider intentionally reading a news source that you wouldn't typically read, such as reading about a news event in an international newspaper or from a political perspective that doesn't match your own views. The Communication Studies Librarian has created a News Sources Research Guide that will help you find news sources at U-M Library.
Every academic department on the University of Michigan campus has a subject specialist librarian. These librarians create subject-specific Research Guides helping people, usually researchers, find in depth information about academic discipline-related topics. Consider finding an academic area such as chemistry, education, the environment, etc. in the library's Research Guides pages and then using the resources listed on those subject-specific pages to learn more about a topic.
