Discounts and Waivers for University of Michigan Authors
Some commercial publishers charge authors fees known as APCs (article publishing charges) to publish open access. The library has contracts with certain publishers that make it possible for U-M-affiliated authors to obtain discounts on APCs. Email the U-M Library if you have questions about these discounts at lib-oa-pub@umich.edu.

American Chemical Society (ACS)The new Read & Green agreement with the American Chemical Society (ACS) journals allows University of Michigan authors publishing in ACS hybrid journals the option to deposit their accepted manuscript into a repository with no embargo and a Creative Commons license of their choice (CC BY or CC BY-NC-ND). There is no fee for authors to participate in this program. Please see a full announcement here.
If authors have an NIH grant (or any other grant that requires submission of an electronic version of the Author Accepted Manuscript immediately upon acceptance for publication), publishing a subscription-access article in the hybrid ACS journal will require an author to manually deposit their accepted manuscript into the database (e.g., PubMed Central for NIH-funded research). If an author chooses to publish OA in the hybrid journal, the author will now have access to a reduced APC of $3,000. However, publishing in a fully Gold OA ACS journal will still require payment of APCs at the amount specified by the journal. -
