Map Resources in Hatcher

Maps, atlases, and gazetteers are essential tools to enable genealogists to identify and locate places where their ancestors lived, to determine migration routes, and for many other purposes. The Hatcher Graduate Library contains a separate map library on the 8th floor of the South building. Please visit the website of the Map Library for additional information, including its hours of operation which are different from those of the Graduate Library. Holdings of the map library can be searched in Library Catalog Search. The suggested method for searching the holdings is to select the Advanced Search feature of Mirlyn, then choose Hatcher Graduate from the dropdown menu for location, and then choose the appropriate section of the map library to search from the dropdown menu for collection.

In addition to the map library, the University Library system has electronic access (restricted to campus only) to Sanborn Fire Insurance maps for all fifty states through Library Search. The Reference Room of the Graduate Library also has a collection of atlases between the entry doors.
