Finding Map Resources

How to find maps, atlases and other spatial resources in the catalog and Mirlyn Classic.

Finding GIS Datasets

Consult the Geospatial Data guide to find sources of electronic data for use in GIS applications, and the Finding Data guide for additional information. Please note that certain resources are restricted to University of Michigan affiliates. There are also some datasets in the catalog that may require manual input into a software application. Conduct keyword searches for your topic plus the word "statistics" or "databases" to find these resources.

Finding Aerial Photographs

The map collection contains several series of black and white, print aerial photographs of Michigan, with varying levels of completeness from 1939-1995.

Aerial photograph coverage in other geographical areas is limited, although some books and atlases include aerial images. Try a keyword or subject search for the location and the phrase aerial photographs. Consult the Aerial Photos guide for more information.
