Creating Maps Using Social Explorer

Use this link to access Social Explorer. This will take you to the subscription version provided by the U-M Library. Within, you'll find demographic information on the United States from 1790 to the most current U.S. Census data sets. Use this tool to create exportable maps and reports.

To learn more about Social Explorer, click on the LEARN MORE box on the main page for an overview of features offered through Social Explorer. The Help link on the upper right side of the page (click on the three dots on the top right of the dark navigation bar) also provides text and video instructions from Social Explorer on using the maps and creating reports in the database. Here is a brief instructional video from your librarian.

Here is a link that shows how to cite maps and reports retrieved from Social Explorer: "How do I cite information on Social Explorer?"

You will need to be logged in with your University of Michigan credentials in order to access the full version of the database and be able to use all of its features and data.

You also have the option to create an account within the database where you can save your own content. To do so, click on the red SIGN UP button on the top right of the Social Explorer screen.
