RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management service that allows users to create personal citation databases, import references from online databases or text files, access your account online from any computer, and automatically format bibliographies.

Moving references out of RefWorks

If you need to export citations from RefWorks go to the References menu and choose Export.  One reason you might export your references would be to import them into another citation management program.

Written Instructions:

  1. On the Export screen, choose the appropriate item in the References to Include section
  2. In the Export Format section, choose how you would like the file formatted
  3. Click Export
  4. A new window will open with the file formatted in the correct way. Using your browser’s save page function (where this is located depends on the browser), save the file to your Desktop or wherever you would like to save it
